WHAT ARE MOORING TAILS?
Mooring tails are short rope sections connected to primary mooring lines to introduce controlled elasticity into the mooring system.
They are commonly used together with low-elongation ropes such as HMPE ropes or steel wire ropes, helping improve energy absorption and reduce peak loads generated by vessel movement, waves, and changing weather conditions.
By providing additional elongation, mooring tails help reduce sudden tension spikes and improve load distribution during mooring operations.
This contributes to safer handling, lower snap-back intensity, and reduced stress on deck equipment and mooring lines.
Nylon mooring tails are especially valued for their excellent shock absorption and fatigue resistance, making them widely used in tankers, bulk carriers, offshore vessels, and demanding marine mooring applications.
